JACK SHEARER
Head Coach
I first picked up a squash racket at 14 and started coaching in 2021 as a part-time job during university, but quickly found it was something I truly loved. Running my own coaching business and being part of so many players’ development has been incredibly rewarding (as well as the extra hours I get to spend on court!).
Since then, I’ve worked with over 80 players of all ages and skill levels, running junior and ladies’ camps, leading summer fitness sessions, and working with the Wellington and Central junior squads. During my time in Wellington, I was the club coach at both Club Kelburn and Island Bay Squash Club. I am excited to expand on this with Taranaki Squash Coaching.
I’m lucky to be supported by personal sponsors Dunlop and VOLT Sports, and I’ve developed my coaching skills under top performance coaches Evan Williams and Matt Green. I’ve also attended multiple Squash New Zealand coaching development camps and in 2022, I was proud to be named Coach of the Year by Squash Wellington and Development Coach of the Year at the New Zealand Squash Awards.
TOBY FREYRIA
Assistant Coach
I started playing squash as a teenager and have built a strong passion for the game over the years. I now coach junior players around 15 years old at Kawaroa Park, designing engaging sessions that balance skill development with enjoyment. My focus is on helping players build solid fundamentals, improve their technique, and grow their confidence on court.
Sam Watson
Assistant Coach
I have been playing squash from a young age and have played many years of competitive squash. I placed 4th in New Zealand for U17s and finished in the top 5 at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Championships. While new to coaching, I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and helping players grow their skills on court and I look forward to being involved in their journeys.
